My job in a time now, has focused on traditional Chinese painting and Japanese, and although I started oil painting in Western style my interest measure by the Eastern culture and art has led me gradually, to introduce more fully in this tradition of painting, trying to deepen their aesthetic concepts.
Chinese and Japanese painting (which has its origins in China), has a long history and we could say is as complex in its diversity and Western. Trends, styles and schools took shape over time and gives it a rich artistic tradition.
It is therefore difficult to generalize, but we could say that is characterized and determined at the technical level through the use of ink and brush, deeply influenced by the art of calligraphy (which also had as instruments of expression such means) and a lines of thought have been those that have shaped the vision of the universe in the Far East. Mainly the idea of "Tao" and its manifestations. Idea that determines the position of man in the cosmos.
Is this kind of art "Exportable" as a means of expression?
I guess the one hand yes and another no.
But in the sense that ideas travel. They have done throughout history. And in these times where they have fallen in the field of communication, barriers imposed in other space and time, more.
Not if we think that any idea that travels in space (also in time) changes, transforms. Especially if it's treated by people from other cultures that provide their baggage.
But all this, if we look at one of the storylines of the Chinese worldview, the idea of change, flux, "open living" by using the expression used by Françoise Cheng, is natural and part of "everything." So there are no hits in a western, a Spanish and I try to express themselves artistically in this environment and also, inevitably, change.
